The last date to link PAN card to Aadhar is 31st March 2021. It has been extended many times and chances are thin that government will extend this further. In fact the government has inserted a new section 234H in the Income Tax Act. The Finance Bill 2021 states very clearly that if an individual fails to link their PAN with Aadhar then not only will the PAN be declared invalid a default fee of Rs 1000 will be payable by the defaulter.
If you have not yet linked your PAN to Aadhar then you must do so immediately. If the PAN card becomes inoperative then it could have an adverse effect on a number of services like banking services, mutual funds, opening a new account KYC procedures etc.
This is how you can link your PAN to Aadhar via online –
1)Visit the Income Tax Website https://www.
2) Fill in your PAN card details, Aadhar number, and your name as mentioned in the official document.
3)Enter the captcha code and click on the ‘Link Aadhar’ hyperlink
Apart from the income tax website you can also complete this process on NSDL and UTI websites as well.
You can choose to link your PAN-Aadhar through SMS by following two simple steps-
-
You will have to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161
-
You will have to mention your Aadhar Number and Pan number in the SMS and send it.
If you have already applied for the linkage then you can always check the status by logging to the income tax website. You will enter your PAN and Aadhar details and click on ‘ View PAN Aadhar status’ and know if it is done or not.
