The annual life certificate is a crucial document every individual receiving a government pension has to submit before November 30 of any year. In case of non-submission of this certificate, the pension authority concludes that the pensioner is not alive and stops his/her pension release. The annual life certificate proves that the applicant is alive.

Earlier, to submit the living certificate, pensioners used to visit the place of their last work to present their living certificate to the authority. To make the process easier, the government allied with banks to carry out this task. In the arrangement, the government allowed pensioners to submit their living certificates at the branch office of any bank. This way, they do not have to visit their last workplace bank physically, which was gruesome for most.

The decision was taken by the government considering the request of pensioners who cannot travel because of the age factor and related disabilities.

Doorstep Service for Submission of Digital Life Certificate by Postman

It is the step of India Post Payment Bank, which comes under the department of Posts and MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology), taken in 2020 to ease pensioners. It has got the approval of the Department of Pension and Pensioners’. To use this facility, a pensioner has to first download the ‘Postinfo App’ from the Google Play Store and submit the life certificate digitally.

Doorstep Banking

This service is similar to dropping the certificate at a bank branch with a little difference. An alliance has been established with 12 public sector banks to carry out the task. The service is currently available in 100 major cities. These banks offer “Doorstep Banking” to their customers. The doorstep banking representatives visit their customers to collect their annual life certificates.

The service can be booked in various ways, through the Doorstep Banking (DSB) mobile application, by visiting the official website of DSB, or by dialing the toll-free numbers – 18001213721, 18001037188.

Submit Life Certificate Through Face Authentication

The third method to submit the annual life certificate for pensioners is UIDAI face authentication technology based on UIDAI Aadhaar software. The retiree can get the Digital Life Certificate by capturing their live snapshot on the platform and uploading it to the Jeevan Pramaan mobile application. One can do it on Android smartphones.

Submit Certificate Signed by Designated Official

Paragraph 14.3 of the CPAO-issued Scheme Booklet paragraph 14.3 says if a pensioner submits the life certificate signed by designated officials whose list is in Annexture-1 in the CPAO scheme handbook, he does not have to submit the document in person.
